Death sentence: Duminda, four others to appeal

Defence counsel appearing for Duminda Silva and four others, who were sentenced to death, told the Media they would appeal against today’s judgment delivered by the judges of the High Court Trial-At-Bar.

They said they would do so within the 40 days allowed by law to file an appeal. (Shehan Chamika Silva)

This man Duminda was involved in lots of crime. When MR was in power Duminda used his charm and led a luxury life even after killing Bharatha. I want this man to rot in jail.

Judgement was given by the High Court if I am right the procedure is appeal will be heard by tge Appeal Court and if the Appeal Court upheld the decision of the HC still it can ve dragged to the Supreme Court!!!

Believe me, Duminda the convicted murderer will be out very soon. The Defence Counselor will interpret the law in such way, soon Duminda will be out or down the road will get President pardon!!!??? Yeah, !!???

There are no grounds for an appeal as the judgment was delivered by a trial at bar and the only reason for an appeal is to prove Constitutional violations at the trial which was not. This only one case where these criminals were convicted but there are many other crimes not investigated as they lived in a life of thuggery and crime protected by senior politicians

However Judge Shiran Gunarathana is a very fair judge who is learned too.I admire him for being this brave and honest in standing by his own findings and conscience and delivering this verdict. The evidence must be truely contradictory. That does not mean Duminda is innocent.I personally dislike Duminda and his past behavior. bt verdict has be based on evidence. Anyway let Supreme court check on this.

Whether he can appeal and drag on the case is immaterial. The main thing is he would be behind bars for quite a while, which alone is sufficient punishment for this rascal, who is reported to have done many other crimes which have not come to courts.
