This is really sad outcome. It is sadder than witnessing a human death as humans caused this death. What a rare animal who thought to be extinct? This animal reminds me the books Sudu Vedda and Sudu Gowna written by Dr. R. L. Spittel

Concerned citizen Friday, 29 May 2020 12:14 PM

Why do they set up these snares? Take action on the fellow who set up the snare!

Very Sad Friday, 29 May 2020 12:15 PM

We are the most pathetic species of all the animals.

Nation that cannot value the beauty of Nature. Continue to destroy it. Sad indeed..... Nothing is done to solve the Human Elephant Conflict....Protect Nature Reserves.

If they just released it from the snare and let him go it would stand better chance of surviving it is extremely rare to survive in captivity.

We will have to repay for many years and generations to come. There could be major landslides during the coming years and these landslides will not even spare religious buildings.. This is something terrible which we have paved way for ourselves that devestated God Saman. I know this because I've met God Saman about 23 years ago. I was lost in the jungle on a track at around 1- 3am. Moonlit night. God Saman appeared and gave me directions. He walked towards me from the tall grass. He stood right in front of me and spoke to me. He appeared in white clad. Sarong and a shirt and he had a white beard from his chin down. When I was looking back at him from the direction he was pointing towards, all I saw was a floating flame about 200m away from me. That split second which took me to turn my head back towards him from the direction he was pointing at, all I saw was a floating flame about 200m away from me. slowly moving away and vanishing into the thick foggy jungle. This isn't a story.

This is the second animal to die within 6weeks. We do not have an expertise to treat these rare creatures. What we have is doctors who can dogs cats and other ordinary animals. So let us take care.

This is a disgraceful country by all ethical standards. This sad news just emerged on the back of the plight of Cavan, the Sri lankan elephant that endured 35 yrs of suffering in Pakistan. Politicians have no interest or respect for the environment

    Poor standard of the vets.

Had Wildlife officers had proper aesthetic drugs before handling such a rare huge animal. Proper dose and anaesthetic guns. Did vicenarians check for internal bleeding or other damages. There is no way an animal an die just like that. Is this another result of government service lethargic / non coordinated actions

    Sara Friday, 29 May 2020 06:25 PM

How can people do this...animal protection needs to be taken seriously here.

    Arith Friday, 29 May 2020 06:30 PM

Died or killed for any purpose?
