The residents of Aluthwewa, Galewala lodged a complaint with the police over the suspicious deaths of some 10 dogs.

The locals discovered bodies of about 10 dogs scattered across the village this morning. Residents believe the dogs have been poisoned.

They alleged that the owners of a local animal farm who had reportedly killed dogs earlier by attacking and shooting them have killed these dogs by poisoning them.

Furthermore, the locals said the animal farm owners had threatened to attack and kill the dogs in the area, after complaints were lodged with the police.

The Galewala Police launched an investigation while the animal farm owners have been instructed to report to the police tomorrow morning.

The locals of the Galewela, Aluthwewa area insisted that strict legal action must be taken against the culprits. Police said further investigations regarding this issue were being carried out. (Kanchana Kumara Ariyadasa)

No words to pen my anger. If I do write what I feel it will not be published. So sad.

How many innocent lives will be lost before karma takes its toll but one day it will and surely it's going to a painful one for that killer !

Relapse of C19 is now inevitable. May these unkind bastards with no kindness to animals be the victims.

Some animal welfare organisation should be set up in Sri Lanka to take care of these innocent animals when they are young. If they can be well looked after when they are young they can be exported to western countries where pets like dogs are very costly. They are well looked after and cared for like part of the family. Sri Lanka can also earn foreign exchange in return. If you harm or kill an innocent animal you can be prosecuted and sent to jail. It is a shame and very sad to see the wanton destruction of native animals like wild elephants and leopards including stray dogs on a daily basis in a Buddhist country like Sri Lanka.

Did the villages didn't hear the sound of shooting? According to the article the farmer who threatened might have done.

Stray dogs in town is distinct lack of public health. They should have been put down humanely.

There should be laws to regulate all sort of pet animal keepers. There are people who keep dogs and cats to feed them the leftovers. That habit should change and pets should be properly looked after and kept inside the houses or their own property and should not be allowed to stray on the streets. Should also control unnecessary breeding of cats or dogs. Stray animals on the streets cause a public health and safety issue.
