Honouring the armed forces personnel who sacrifice their life and limb to defeat terrorism is one thing but to celebrate defeat of terrorism in the manner known as Victory Day is not the way. There are other innocent lives as well which had been sacrificed. This is not a war victory over an alien invading nation.

People of the country had elected their representativs now they must be allowed to decide what is the good and bad not priests who should be doing their duties in temples.

Meaningful comments by members of the clergy if aimed at at foster harmony are welcome. Tit for tat action or statements for political reasons can go against the very religion they preach. A Buddhist monk is not only for the Buddhists. They are spiritual guides to the world.

Instead of celebrations, have religious events all around the country.blessing the people who died during the war, Sinhalese, Tamil

this monk kept quiet when the JVP celebrated their leaders death, why then make a noise when the Tamils did the same. very unbecoming of a Buddhist monk

Lord Buddha has said have compassion and gratitude. Ranaviruwan gave their lives for our liberty. Commemorating Ranaviru day is not taking revenge on anyone it is acknowledging the sacrifice made by our soldiers. Every country honours their departed armed personnel. Why not Sri Lanka?

It is not only the terrorists who died during the final phase of the war. Tamil civilians died in thousands. It is not a crime for the Tamils to remember those who lost their lives on that day. It is reasonable as community to get together and observe religious rites on behalf of their community.

“Nahi Verena Verani”. That is what the Buddha preached. Have a read.

Celebrate war victory by honoring all innocent victims of the war and not just a selected section and also in a manner which is not communal in nature. Besides, by making politically motivated statements, this "monk" is not respecting the teachings of the Buddha.

A simple ceremony at the War Memorial opposite Parliment in the morning and religios ceremonies in the evening are the appropriate activities of the day. Military Parades waste of pblic funds of a Nation indebted to the hilt.

It was a war against LTTE, not Tamils. Think before you speak !
ranjith Chandrasekera Friday, 15 May 2015 06:11 AM
The Victory Day is aimed at all those who fought the war and sacrificed their lives against the wold dangerous criminal organisation, LTTE. They were responsible for drug smuggling, supplying arms to other terrorists and criminal gangs operation elsewhere, kidnapping, torture, killing of their owns as well, suicide bombing, training child soldiers for indiscriminate killings, destruction of properties and you name all criminal acts in this world. Our soldiers rescued thousands of Tamils forcibly kept by terrorists as human shield. Do not insult those who fought and won the war by remembering those criminal terrorists on par with our brave soldiers.

What about the war victory against the JVP? Celebrate this as well? I feel the govt made the right decision. What we need is peace and prosperity in this blessed island.

Religious leaders must come forward now to enlighten the public on the dangerous path this government has taken.

Respected Clergy from Buddhism,Muslim,Hinduism,Christianity, Without getting involved in Politics, Preach Buddhism,The Koran, The Bible and Religion to the Citizens of the country to make them better loving people and not hurt or do wrong to others, which will solve all the issues in this country.
Mason Thursday, 14 May 2015 02:50 PM
Celebrating war victory is sending a message to the Tamils that you are our conquered subjects to be treated at our whims and fancies. This will under no circumstances bring about harmony between the different communities. BBS is doing all what is possible to sow hatred. It is better that others do not join them.
