The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) is to launch an indefinite strike in all hospitals island-wide beginning from May 15 demanding the nationalization of SAITM, the private medical college in Malabe.
The Executive member of the Association Dr. Nalinda Herath said the indefinite strike most probably would be from May 15.
He stated that the GMOA's executive meeting would meet tomorrow in Colombo to decide on the date.
The association has given the final warning about the indefinite strike to the government through the token strike on Friday, he added.
"The executive committee will decide on the date for commencement of the indefinite strike as government had not responded favourably on association's trade union actions taken so far", he said.
Dr. Herath expressed the confidence of support of number of other trade unions for their strike.(Dayaseeli Liyanage)

Ok, give sufficient notice. There will be enough Indian doctors to treat our patients, and at a low cost.

weera has obviously not been selected to do medicine despite the 'free education' he had! This is what jealousy means!

they are under a contract with the government . GMOA is performing this deadly drama keeping the poor patients lives for a shield while the government is passing all of their official stealing bills behind the screen. already they have passed moneys for 6 vehicles worth 43 Mn each.. mind you.. the lives lost at Meethotamulla were valued at Rs. 100,000- while they are ordering these vehicles in a shameless manner... go ahead and strike with GMOA and vote these looters until you go penniless...

These buggers brains swell up so much, they forget the fact that it is because of the free education funded by the tax paying public, they have been able to become doctors. Their service should be made an essential service and make striking illegal and subject to heavy fines and removal from government service if they strike. Also they should not be allowed to do private practice while they are employed by the government. If they want to do private practice, they have to resign from the government service.

Oh I see, indefinite strike! Definitely you will go home - your hira gethara. I don't think all the doctors in Sri Lanka are fools to worship GMOA - with its political agenda.

No one will join the strike,if they were born to real Sri Lankan parents, who are concern our sick poor masses, who toil and earn to educate our Doctors.
