The Meteorology Department said today strong winds strengthening up to 60-70 kmph was expected in the Southern sea areas while fairly strong winds of 50-60 kmph could be expected over the island.

It said issuing a severe weather advisory valid for next 24 hours starting from 1.00 p.m. today that the deep and shallow sea area off the coast extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota could be very rough at times as the wind speed could increase up to 60-70 kmph.
