Gampaha, May 17 (Daily Mirror) - The Gampaha High Court Trial-at-Bar acquitted the four accused including a Major General involved in the shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of three individuals and the injury of several others during a protest for clean drinking water in Rathupaswala on August 1, 2013.

JUST GOES TO SHOW THE INFLUENCE POLITICIANS HAVE WITH THIS PARTICULAR COURT AND SOME OTHERS. SO, THE POLICE ARE ENTITLED TO MURDER WHEN THEY ARE CONFRONTED BY A GROUP OF UNARMED VILLAGERS WHO COMPLAINING/PROTESTING THEIR DRINKING WATER IS CONTAMINATED BY A FACTORY!! WHY WERE THEY SHOT FOR SPEAKING UP, DRINKING WATER IS A BASIS RIGHT FOR EVERYONE, THEY CANNOT GO OUT AND BUY BOTTLED WATER LIKE THE "HAVES" OF THE COUNTRY, AS THEY PARE THE POOR AND UNDERPRIVILEDGED CITIZENS. THIS HAS TO ONLY HAPPEN IN A COUNTRY RULED BY CORRUPTION, OILING OF PALMS AND FEATHERING OF THEIR NESTS. SOME OF THE PEOPLE EMPLOYED IN THE POLICE FORCE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN EMPLOYED, THESE ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE COME INTO PUBLIC SERVICE THROUGH SOME POLITICIANS IN POWER THROUGH THE YEARS.

Completely wrong decison, unarmed villagers murdered and shooters get away free Friday, 17 May 2024 05:10 PM

How could the Gampaha High Court Trial-at-Bar do this? There seems no sense in this, and if the laws were interpreted by British or Western judges these killer would not get off free. There is some problem when shooters have no consequences for their wicked action.

Laughable. You now know who is in charge of this country. RW or the good old Rajapakses? Vote wisely people. We have had enough of this circus. My thoughts go to the innocent boy who lost his life and his family.

It was a dark day for Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, murderers won the battle. Dead and their relatives must silently suffer forever. What a sorry state! I vehemently condemned these murderers without any hesitation.

High courts and appeal courts are loosing trust among general public. If this case taken to SC, we may see a similar situation to that of DG. So who will pay for the public money wasted by legal entities. AG,Juges at court or police. IMF should look in to this matter as well.

Where have we gone wrong, why perpetrators of a major crime set free in our country. For these fellows lives of ordinary citizens are expendable. We will not be safe in our homes, in our village, in our town and in our motherland, if we let this be forgotten.

Attorney General's department is at fault for this outcome. They didn't put a strong case for prosecution, may be under the influence of the government.

Now the people can really understand what "minimum force" in Sri Lanka means. It means the army is free to shoot innocent schoolchildren at random.
