Umariya Singhawansa, the sister of Umara Sinhawansa who made headlines for the distorted singing of the National Anthem at the LPL opening, said today that her sister does not deserve whatever that is happening at the moment as there are much bigger issues underlining this country.
“While there are much bigger issues underlining this country, they will always find other irrelevant, trivial things to magnify and blow out of proportion," she posted on her facebook.
“But know this, my sister has too good a heart. And she does not deserve whatever that’s happening at the moment. And I’m ashamed that we still live in a world where ridiculing, bullying and hurting people online and elsewhere is still a “thing”. To those who have stuck by her and have been kind. Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts. We’re grateful,” she said.
These tactics are simply called planned Distractions Wednesday, 02 August 2023 04:13 PM
We all know that. However, the government wants CONSTANT distraction from its failures. Tomorrow, it will be a different issue. The day after tomorrow it will be a new issue. They know there are morons who fall for these sorts of distractions. They have been doing this since the days of Adam and Madam.

Triviality of an event can only be decided by the rule of law, not by social media. Yes, country is bankrupt and its poor standards are, especially of media and art is partly responsible.

If the national anthem had been sung wrongly the singer can make a apology. This third grade politicians make it an issue by raising the feeling of the masses.specially the potuwa chaps does not have any thing to speak so they are making a big issue and the media also behind them.

Our politicians make mountains out of molehills, while trying to divert attention from mountain load of problems in the country.

Agreed totally. Matter would have been settled with a simple apology

A mistake has been done. An apology is all what is needed. An it is a must, since any Sri Lankan should be ashamed of themselves, for not knowing the national anthem of his or her country. So stop giving childish excuses and making this worse

If its the politicians who commented i think they have far bigger things to apologize for and beg forgiveness. I have noticed that there is alot of bullying targeting women. Don't let anyone tear your confidence down. You keep singing!!!!

No talk about corruption, bank robberies, kappam, no visa parliamentarians, bribe people in the cabinet, law breakers, rapists, drug dealers are all forgotten by SL politicians! Once shout about Dalada Maligawa! No talk about rising food prices - strikes by working people - hospital crisis!

This country has been made bankrupt stealing by the billions, killings and so on but no one wants to make a fuss about those but this little slip of the tongue is a big issue for some people.

My dear sister Re- your comment your sister may be too good at heart. But she has committed a grave mistake. Therefore, do not speak about much bigger issues underlining this country. Ask her to take a public apology otherwise this will become a virtually identical rule for every level of precedence.

Haven't we been blaming the others for all and every failure?

I felt more shame when Gota went begging to foreign countries in the name of Sri Lankans, singing the national anthem wrong is only petty thing to worry about

One does not have to go far! Simply going down to Independence Square will show the extent to which our National Flag has been downgraded!

Your sister maybe good at heart and there may also be bigger issues in the country but distortion of the National Anthem of any country is an insult to a Nations Honor and its people, hence it is a crime. Your sister can certainly apologize, but she also has to face the consequences as an adult.

Find something more interesting to complain about. and with a valid reason. No ones perfect. we all err, it's unfortunate that some does on public stage.

Normally such public shows at public functions have one or two rehearsels done before the event so that nothing wrong goes at the final event. The said mispronounciation should have been corrected by organisers at rehearsal time. Therefore the culprits here are the officials who supervised the rehearsals and not the Singer as she f did not know the correct wordings and correct pronunciations. Sinhawansa is not guilty is the public opinion.
