Failing police and judiciary under corrupt politicians like MR, GR, RW etc. has pushed the country into anarchy. The violent gangs are thriving in the lawless country, run by law less Politicians.

Sarath Chandrawansa Friday, 16 December 2022 12:29 AM

This incident occurred in the heart of the Colombo city according to the news, It will be a big risks about people's security.

True citizen Friday, 16 December 2022 12:58 AM

Government should utilise STF to deal with such criminals and get rid of them, don’t worry about human rights because criminals don’t care about our human rights so why should we worry about them. Law is not going to stop these criminals! They will be out of prison in no time back to their criminal acts.

    DHA Friday, 16 December 2022 01:28 AM

It's high time the laws are made tough...the crime rate has doubled....over to you Mr. President.

    L Jaya Friday, 16 December 2022 01:42 AM

These things were happening in previous regimes before Yahapalana, now we see similar wave of violence again. Where are we heading Sri Lanka. God bless SL

    Redflame Friday, 16 December 2022 02:07 AM

May you rest in eternal peace! Very pathetic lawlessness situation. No wonder why people flee this country.

Coo Mawatha Friday, 16 December 2022 02:49 AM

Once more we shall see Sri Lanka’s weak, corrupt judiciary in full display! Should we go by history, and it shamelessly repeats itself in SL, this is what will happen. A suspect will be arrested, if the police doesn’t already parley the person has scooted off to Dubai. If arrested, the person for certain will be released on bail the day after. And then for the next 2 decades the ‘suspect’ will be too sick to turn up for court hearings. The optics prefaces it is a politically driven murder. And given how corrupt Sri Lankan government and (because of it) those who are supposed to protect the law, won’t be surprised if nothing happens at all! Feel terrible for Schaffter’s friends and family

What a mafia state this country has become. The investigation into the incident was handed over to another mafia organisation (CID).

    Ranil Friday, 16 December 2022 09:16 AM

@DW, Your'e right. The CID is protecting the Mafia, drug lords and their drug cartels and the underworld. The victims of financial swindler Thilini and those who are witnesses that would testify against her will get assassinated. The CID itself is a part of the Mafia.

John Perera Friday, 16 December 2022 05:18 AM

May he Rest In Peace. May the Lord have mercy on the killing and those involved and defeat evil in Sri Lanka.

    Shelly Friday, 16 December 2022 05:14 PM

"Lord have mercy on the killing"? Not applicable here. The vengeance of God applies to those who are evil and kill the innocent. "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord: I will repay."

    Cherath Friday, 16 December 2022 05:36 AM

This country needs a complete revamp through a people's verdict. It's no point to declare every outlandish murder, robbery and anything else as 'oh..it can happen anywhere in the world's. Otherwise, nothing can save this country, not even IMF or PR of China.

    MarkD Friday, 16 December 2022 06:08 AM

How much Ranil has proposed for national security in the budget? Bloody joke these kinda things happening in this tiny island.

    Ram Friday, 16 December 2022 07:04 AM

How can a car enter the cemetery without the knowledge of the watchers. Can see the country driven in a direction where people who are useful are eliminated

    R. Anthick Friday, 16 December 2022 07:47 AM

We offer our condolances to the bereaved members of the family. May the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest.

SL becoming dangerous place to live in and do business. This is the culture of lawlessness created by politicians. Bug stop at political culture and which created weak law enforcement for real issues!

Tissa Fernando Friday, 16 December 2022 07:58 AM

SL becoming a Mexico after so many people have got military experience, once they taste this kind of business, they will continue to do so. The country has gone to foxes now

Jacoobie marking Stage managing Friday, 16 December 2022 08:18 AM

@MarkingD When the previous Robbers allocated colossal sums in the name of National Security , how many murders you think were stage managed ??

Piyal Ranjith Weeratunga Friday, 16 December 2022 08:43 AM

The country could be freed from accusations of international community, if the Law of the land comes into operation equitably on these crimes. These crimes should be investigated into with transparency. So that no body would be able to point finger at this country accusing it in vain. This country has been encountering the issue of human rights violations in the country since long time. Just to shake off these international allegations, government should work in transparent on these crimes bringing justice to the prejudiced party.

Srilanka has become like a Chicago inUSA. Day light killing day light Robbery have become the order of the day in the high security zone . Where is kamal gune who boasts of ample security in the country. We will see these type of gruesome incidents as long as this corrupt system remains in force.

    joshua Friday, 16 December 2022 08:52 AM

The perpetrator will be nabbed but the case will go for many years as we have seen before. That's how law in SL works. If a politician is connected, then the case will find its way to under the carpet.

    Dee Friday, 16 December 2022 08:53 AM

Those responsible, their families even small children should be wiped out. Not jailed. Because such things are in the genes and will continue from generation to generation.

Kaasaythan Kadawulada! Friday, 16 December 2022 09:26 AM

Do we have several parallel Governments running Lanka at the same time? Victim complains to the CID about unreturned money. He is killed. The matter is now handed over to CID for investigation. We don't have Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims or Christians any more in Lanka. They have become money worshipping GOONS.

This is tragic, if this happens in the heart of Colombo, what assurance do we have. Why would investors, tourists pick Sri Lanka as a Destination of choice

Shelly Belly Friday, 16 December 2022 09:52 AM

I am shocked and saddened. Dinesh was a good soul. May God comfort his wife and family. Those who did this will pay in hell for eternity.

God save the country. Friday, 16 December 2022 11:06 AM

ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING ! WE SRILANKAN CITIZENS DONT HAVE ANY CONFIDENCE IN SEEING JUSTICE IN THIS CASE. WE KNOW THAT NOTHING HAS SO FAR COME OUT OF THE MURDERS COMMITTED YEARS AGO OF LASANTHA, WICREMATUNGA, RUGGERITE THAJUDEEN, EKNELGODA, AND SO MANY OTHER PERSONALITIES AND THE CULPRITS WALKING FREE WITHOUT REMORSE AND SOME GIVEN PRESIDENTIAL PARDON.

How sad and what a shame. Where is the law? And we get really worked up when we are criticized by Human Rights organizations. There was a time when I proudly said to people in other countries that I am "Sri Lankan". Now I am ashamed to mention it. This is what our barbaric rulers have made our country into.

    Raymon Friday, 16 December 2022 02:25 PM

This has been happening in Tamil arrears for a long time . Sinhalese turned to a blind eye and said LTTE is making up the stories . Also this will have far reaching repercussions and no investors from overseas willing to invest here . They will be scared to death and think twice to join hands with local investors .

Intiquab (Canada) Friday, 16 December 2022 04:03 PM

The most corrupt are the lawyers who appear for the criminals, Ranjan said .

now dead man mention anything about his assailants when he was found Friday, 16 December 2022 06:21 PM

This seems well planned with the 'wire tie' type plastic put around his neck. Maybe more to scare him than kill him, as otherwise the criminals would have covered their tracks better. Has the dead man mention anything about his assailants when he was found

Moh Sleiman Saturday, 17 December 2022 07:12 AM

Same as RUGBY PLAYER THAJUDEENS murder,The whole country knew who murdered the guy with all Evidence and nothing happened,so same story whether SCHAFTER was innocent or not, this will be thrown under the carpet, for sure some big is involved,GOOD LUCK WITH THE JUSTICE SYSTEM.

Cam sab Sunday, 18 December 2022 03:08 AM

I hear the dead is a Tamil businessman. If so, it is going to go without notice for sure. There was so many white van abductions and killings went unnoticed during GR time. Meanwhile GR released merciless killers under presidential pardon. God’s punishment has started for Rajapakse family for the heinous crimes they committed while in power. Racist people who brought the most idiot person as a president brought the country to its knee. It is a shame to say we are Sri Lankans. People all over the world look at Sri Lankans as bunch of beggars and looters.
