The captain of the Sri Lanka women's rugby team, Dulani Pallekondage, who has come to South Korea to participate in the second leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series, has gone missing after the tournament.
The team manager has informed the police about this through the officials of the Korean Rugby Union, and the Namdong police in Incheon have started an investigation.
The Sri Lankan men's and women's teams that participated in the series are scheduled to leave the Incheon airport for Sri Lanka at around 11.30 p.m. today, and a Korean police officer said that the police will try their best to find Dulani before the team leaves Korea.
The first final match between Sri Lanka and Hong Kong ended at around 1.00 pm Sri Lanka time, and the Sri Lankan players were seated in the stadium to watch the men's third-place match.
After the men's match, both teams went to the players, restrooms, and the captain appeared for the media conference. She spoke about the team's losses and the mistakes made.
After the prize-giving ceremony, the manager of the women’s team made an announcement twice in Sinhala, saying that the team was looking for Dulani and informing her to come to the team bus immediately to leave the stadium.
About an hour later, the bus carrying the players of the two teams left the stadium for the hotels where they were staying, and the managers of both the men's and women's teams stayed at the stadium and assisted the police and Korean rugby officials in looking for Dulani. What is this "missing" thing with almost all SL sporting teams going abroad? I thought SL was a paradise and it was being ruled by a very very competent bunch who are the best in the world? Look at SL roads and they are full of luxury vehicles. Who is struggling? Are they paying any tax? Why go missing from such a country?
