A probe has been initiated over the incident where a verbal clash has taken place between two police officers and several army personnel attached to Army motorcycle squad at the roadblock near the Parliament complex during a public protest today.

According to the video, the Army motorcycle squad were seen attempting to ride despite the police barricades which were set up to prevent protesters entering towards parliament.

Police said the inquiry has been initiated upon a request made by the Army Commander in regard to the incident.

The Army said when four motorcycles of Army motorcycle squad approached the roadblock around the Parliament complex, two police officers (Assistant Superintendents of Police) acted inappropriately.

Army spokesman Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne said the IGP has informed the Army Commander that he will take immediate action.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Defense has also requested the IGP and the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security to take immediate action in this regard, the spokesman said.

Accordingly, the IGP has directed relevant institutions to launch an independent inquiry over the said incident and take necessary disciplinary actions.(DSB)

How come armed individuals come in number plateless bikes and try to attack the protest or create unnecessary problems. Police were not informed and they did the right thing. Time for lawyers and hr to stand against these thugs and help those genuine police officers. Probably these are the same guys who set bus on fire and damaged mps properties to put blame on protestors.

Is the army slowly taking over the country? Is this the one discussed between the commander and foreign diplomats? We could smell the blood, when diplomats met with a commander who was under the scrutiny of human rights. Sri Lanka from Rajapakses to military rule?

Police officers are meant to control the situation and keep the peace and that did that. Why were the police not informed that the army was coming ?? Who gave the orders to sync them ??? Why were they not wearing their insignia nor having number plates ?? This must be investigated first. The lawyers must protect these police officer at any cost

Police should enforce the law for riding the motor cycle without number plates. Does the law allow the forces to use military number plates instead of the number plates issued by RMV

Army Commander does not have any rights to deploy his personnel by passing the country's law of motor traffic. He must be example to the Nation if he is a genuine person. First he must be shame for what he did and IGP must take legal action against him, given wrong instruction to his subordinates.

Is there a rule in this country that people can ride motorcycles anywhere they want without number plates. Even police and Army. They are paid by the people to provide security for the people. Not to Gota and the Army Commander. Who knows who they are? Is there a separate rule in this country for Gota and the Army Commander? Don't worry we will see an end to all these very soon.
