President Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to make a fresh call for a national government on April 25 when Parliament takes up the debate on the IMF extended Fund Facility (EFF) agreement.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mano Ganesan told Daily Mirror that President had informed him and MP Rauff Hakeem that he would make a fresh call on that day to all opposition MPs to extend support for the idea.
MP Ganesan told Daily Mirror that although the President said he would make the call when Parliament meets, he did not extend such an invitation when we met him.
Earlier, the MP said he together with MP Rauff Hakeem initiated an effort to bring the UNP and SJB under one umbrella, but they had to abandon the idea since the SJB leadership did not respond.
"However the subject of "premiership" never popped up in our discussion. All media reports claiming that the President had sent messages to opposition leader Sajith Premadasa offering him the Premiership were false and baseless," he added. (Yohan Perera)

National government idea is, to all politicians get together and continue corruption!! And under national government there will be like 100 ministers coz the Prez have to satisfy all the parties!! Then the Lankan people gonna be biggest losers, yeah people, should say no to national government!! NG is to avoid holding elections, nothing should be allowed without fresh mandate from the voters!!

Only the government that people expect is that through an election a leader should be elected by their mandate. So, unseat the presidency, seating again with the people's mandate.Holding as President of SL under the United States' command is unpardonable wrong.

President is 100% right in this matter .why ? We need a political unity right now in this country's 75 years of its independence..No time we need a national unity of all political parties; all Sri Lankan communities Tamil ; Sinhalese; Malay and all your communities must work hand in hand to save this country from this economic enemy's Ruthless fighting with our lives ..suppose we all will fight if any outsiders come and try to invade as we did during this colonial period...this fight is invisible fight of all of us against this Ruthless economic enemy that has invaded us all ..whether you like it or not we all have forget about our petty political ; religious and regional differences...No hope for this nation unless we have unity ..I urge Sajith to work with Ranil on this crucial movement if he and his party love this country....leave all ego one side and come to term with all

Yea,I too with you. What Pri.Ranil Rajapak hidden agenda is proction Rajapak family and Pohttuwa. Get altogether and its easy to play this game and keeps his Prisdentship forever. At the same time he hope to get the international support also.Meanwhile they will pass the all the bills thay need to control the public. If sjb accepted this proposal it will be disaster for the nation.

The President's effort is for winning the support of all Parties for him to continue as President without any Opposition. There are crooks in the Opposition who will join to obtain Position and Privileges on the pretext of helping the President to come out of the Crises. If he succeeds, there won't be any Elections in the foreseeable future.

The only thing that drives Ranil is selfish reasons. He definitely wants to be re-elected president, this time with a mandate from the people. For this he needs the votes of the opposition in an election, since the family party of the mafia don MR will hardly get any more votes in the next election. So far, Ranil has only fooled people and made promises that couldn't be kept. He should resign with honor and leave his post to an expert. As a worn-out lawyer and eternal looser, he is definitely not suitable for the office of President.

The majority of the comments so far show that the people of Sri Lanka have learned from the frauds and deceptions of the Rajapaksa era and completely see through Ranil's mendacious electoral game! Ranil's call for the formation of a national government does not serve the recovery and prosperity of the country and its people, but purely selfish motives to secure his power without a mandate from the people! Ranil knows that the next election will spell his end and result in disaster for the current ruling parties! The opposition parties must, over and above existing differences and divergences, constitute a unit with a corresponding claim to leadership and push it through in a convincing manner! Only in this way will Sri Lanka, a policy approved and supported by the majority of all people, succeed in a better future!
