Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara Chief Prelate Valahagunawewa Dhammarathana likened monks in universities to the Taliban.
The Thera made these comments stating that laws should be drafted to limit the number of years students can engage in academic activities at universities.
“They can engage in politics, but in a way that doesn’t harm others. Their actions are despised by the people and it reflects badly on the entire Sangha community,” he said. (Kanchana Kumara Ariyadasa)

Monks or any student who does not follow academic pathways and does not get proper grades and qualify on time should not be allowed to continue wasting time and money and denying the placement of a another applicant Subsidized and free education is never appreciated It is time to start charging students depending on circumstances

He is absolutely right. The wrong kind of people are Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka, with racists to rapists galore and their sustenance derived from corrupt politicians. Buddha became a monk not by being ordained by a system such as a Sangha, hence this invented futile system has to be abandoned. Like the Yogis and Sanyasis who withdraw totally from all desires and the mundane world voluntarily are the 'real' monks just as Buddha. Only such spiritual seekers are qualified to be called monks, others are glorified crooks in yellow robes, period. The edifice of Sangha is unsustainable and is bound to fail sooner or later.

The buddhas teachings are not limited to monks. Today many lay people specially in western countries follow the authentic teachings of the buddha and find peace and happiness. The media publicity is given to the bad monks regularly and the good and silent monks are shown only on a poya day program.

Monks have been behaving worse than Talaban. What do you say about a thug called Ganesera Thero. He looks a thug, behaves like a thug and therefore certain politicians keep this "blood Hound" as a two legged pet to frighten certain minorities in this country. One has to wonder how long the Singha and this thug will keep playing this game?

Free education and state sponsored buddhism are the reasons. State should be secular by not pumping money into this kind of religious universities. It will only create religious fundamentalism.

Why do monks need a university anyway?. We should not give too much importance to religions. Religions are the biggest problem in the world. People become fanatics via blind faiths. Be free to decide if they want to follow a religion or not. Just close the whole thing forever.

What about the ones preaching impermanence and living a lavish life style using luxury vehicles and abodes ...do i need to remind names ..... people loosing faith on both Buddhist scriptures and saffron robbers ..... not because of university monks...
