Stressing that the danger posed by COVID is still lurking menacingly though cases have marginally decreased, the Health Ministry said the people's behaviour especially during the weekend is absolutely distressing.
Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath told a news briefing today that people were behaving as if the COVID risk had been vanished.
“We saw in media how people enjoyed their weekend going on excursions. This kind of irresponsible conduct by people can't be condoned,” he underscored.
“If people continued to act in this way, the authorities might be compelled to go for tighter restrictions,” Dr Herath stressed.
Thus, he urged people to be more responsible and leave no stone unturned in the battle against COVID-19. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Lankans are irresponsible people in all ways. It is their irresponsibility that has messed up the country.

You talk of a family going outstation. Just take a look at the weekend fair and bazar. Customer comes wearing double masks and sheild some with surgical gloves too. Most of it comes off when shopping. Vendors mostly have mask covering mouth, some on chin and some wear it on the neck. As habitual for Sri Lankans, absolutely no distance, if they could climb over others shoulder- they'd do that as well.

Selvakumar - Unfortunately it's not only in Sri Lanka. Here in the UK people don't follow the guidance on social distancing and wearing masks. The problem is that it's only guidance and not law. Media reports suggest it's much the same in the USA too.

This government stooge's daily gloomy comments are just to keep the pot boiling and keep restrictions in place. The simple fact is that a failed government can't face the people and are trying to hide behind Covid. Also, the vaccine and PCR test kit merchants can keep on making money.

What can you expect from the very same people who voted murderers, rogues, thieves and mafia mudalalis and an uneducated lot back into power? They think the government is in their pockets.
