The government has decided not to import any vehicles into the country and not to admit any new staff appointments for next year, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa said.
Addressing the media, Minister Rajapaksa said the coming year was going to be difficult, and the government had to run through the year with the existing staff and vehicles.
"With the current situation in the country, the government is unable to import the vehicles," he said.

There is more than enough Government servants. 89% of tax income is paid out to them. Don't need any more new staff for the next 10 year.

Banning import of vehicles is a very good move. Ministerial /VIP back up vehicles should be reduced to the minimum. Our parliamentarians should travel freely without security backups. The come to our homes for votes without security but once elected why a security cover.

Good decision.. Let vehicle importers starve to death.. their association should also be banned and members arrested.. it's their actions over so many decades that we cannot manufacturer an affordable quality vehicle..
