State Minister of Women and Child Affairs Geetha Kumarasinghe appeared to have trouble in establishing her identity as a Minister when she recently telephoned the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Kuwait Kandeepan Balasubramaniam to inquire into the suspicious death of a Sri Lankan female.

During a media briefing, the State Minister made a telephone call to the Ambassador to Kuwait.

The Minister who introduced herself as Geetha Kumarasinghe struggled to establish her identity as a Minister, while the Ambassador was heard questioning as to who Geetha was.

“Geetha Kumarasinghe means the Udarata Menike who sang songs?” the Ambassador questioned, to which the State Minister responded that she is an actress. “Your Excellency, I never have sung. For so many years I was in the movies. Now I’m working in the ... Women and Child...” she said.

The incident the Minister inquired into, concerns the death of a woman inside a Kuwaiti residence, which has raised suspicions that her death was not a suicide. Despite a detailed explanation by the Ambassador, the State Minister appeared to be more interested in the Ambassadors comment.

“How was that? The Ambassador said that I’m an Udarata Menike...” she told journalists.

This is what happens when you merge the minister of women-and childaffairs with the ministry of education. You are right Neel, no one cares. Her answer was: I was in the movies? My God such an incompetence.

Shows the knowledge level of the Ambassador. Must be a political appointee.

    Political-Appointee Friday, 05 May 2023 01:48 PM

The appointee as ambassador to Kuwain mission for Sri Lanka is thoroughly ineffecient to hold the post, therefore, the President must look into this matter to recall that bugger of hoot from the mission immediately. Thisn should not be taken as just simple mistake, but a grave disgrace for Sri Lankan women who must together to appeal the President for the US-JUSTICE, a system now prevailing by its COMMAND in Sri Lanka.

Don't they have to go through the Foreign ministry to make such a request.

    Sri Saturday, 06 May 2023 02:38 AM

Most of our foreign missions are incompetent and people who work in Sri Lankan missions are political appointees and they don't have skills ; talent and knowledge to deal with any sensitive issues and geopolitical issues .So poor service they provide..They don't respect Sri Lankans who visit there ...Now one more than there is no even good communication between Sri Lankan politicians and their appointees in Sri Lankan missions

    A leading woman Saturday, 06 May 2023 05:30 AM

Mrs. Geetha Kumarasinghe has been a leading actress in Sri Lankan Cinema for several decades. She has also been an MP for over 10 years and is now a Minister of State. If this so-called Ambassador has no idea who she is, that confirms he is unfit to represent Sri Lanka.

We elect people to govern our country based on their popularity, e.g. cricketers, actors, actresses, singers and even thieves and thugs but not on their educational qualifications and suitability!!! Sadly it'll take a few more decades to change this!!!!
