With the number of cases and deaths showing a marginal increase day by day despite vaccination, Health authorities warn of a dark period ahead if the situation is not nipped in the bud.
COVID-19 Coordinator, Director of Technical Services of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anwar Hamdani said there is a slight increase in hospitalisation of COVID patients.
“30 percent of total treatment centres of 176 has been occupied at present,” he said.
“This is in fact setting alarm bells ringing. It is imperative that we control the situation before it turns worse; otherwise, the country could inevitably be dragged to the dark era that we had a few months ago,” Dr Hamdani highlighted.
Hence, he urged people to strictly comply with health guidelines and practices if the country is to reach a controlled situation.
The number of infections which was around 600, now ranges between 700 to 800. In addition, the number of fatalities is also around 20 at present. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

How come. In countries like the US and Europe, the rise in COVID-19 related deaths and infections are on the rise due to a large number of people refusing the vaccines. In Sri Lanka we claim that 70% of the over 30 population has been fully vaccinated. So why the increase ? Is is due to the efficacy of the main vaccine used in Sri Lanka. The Heath Department should reveal the efficacy rated of all the vaccines used in Sri Lanka.

These health officials keep on ringing alarm bells many to show their prowess. At times maybe with a political tag. No doubt the danger maybe in the air but the risk of dying of poverty may be on the increase and the latter could be in larger numbers. Enough is enough so a little silence from these pundits could be more helpful as people too have to go about their daily chores and are now more conscious of the happenings around and are not openly flouting the regulations

When doctors sound alarm bells people do not like it. We gullible people are good at gulping every milliliter of lies and deception of the government but not the truth. Go ahead people dance as you like and later sit and regret with the closed down country. That's what some of these critiques deserve.

We must not be stupid to insult health authorities when they issue warnings! Just yesterday when I went to keells super I saw massive crowds in food court, in the movie theatre etc. They were youngsters, at least 15 to a group, hanging around and having a good time! Some did not even have masks!!! We all know that taking both vaccines does NOT prevent one from getting COVID! People must take responsibility not to gather in this manner; l they are putting everyone at risk.

This is a vulgar assertion. Maharagama cancer hospital has no temperature check at the gate, no sanitizer, no washing hands, no distancing. Immunity compromised patients mingling with those accompanying patients. Crime. The Ministry is mocking the society. Do they demonstrate with correct action?
