The Attorney General has recommended the Minister of Sports to suspend Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka from domestic and international cricket with immediate effect until a verdict is reached in the court case against the cricketer in Australia.
Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe told Daily Mirror that he has received the Attorney General's recommendation following the report submitted by a five-member committee. The report probing several allegations linked to the Sri Lankan cricket team which toured Australia to take part at the T20 World Cup was forwarded to the Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam last week.
The committee chaired by retired High Court Judge Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena recommended a full-scale forensic audit on the expenditure incurred during the Sri Lankan team's tour of Australia.
The report covers the incident involving Danushka Gunathilaka who was arrested on charges of sexual assault, Chamika Karunaratne’s disciplinary breach, the impact of the ‘Born again’ sect on the national cricket team and matters linked to financial irregularities among other concerns.
The Minister said that the Attorney General concurred with the committee’s recommendations.
Accordingly, Danushka Gunathilaka will be suspended from participating in domestic and international cricket while the committee report will be forwarded to the Auditor General for a forensic audit.

The Team Manager can decide on this. Why this should be referred to AG when he has more work related to the Government. There are thousand of deserving best players are available in Sri Lanka

The AG should worry about people languishing in remand for months and years. A shameful department. Australia will take care of Dhanushka.

If possible they should get all cricketers in national team enrolled in "Born Again" sect so that they will perform to expected levels.

Comeon, he should be given a hero's welcome in true our cultural way. After all, we gave a hero's welcome to Alitalia Flight Hijacker Sepala Ekanayake in Colombo until the world threatened Sri Lanka to arrest him and JR did it after almost a week later.

Brilliant idea!! Why, do you think the Australian authorities will allow him to play cricket in SL till his case is finalised? Either way he is not leaving Australia till his case reaches a verdict.

There are many of us Christians who would respectfully request that "born again" term is not used loosely or misinterpreted. Let me explain. A senior Jewish teacher of the Law asked Jesus "What must I do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven"? Jesus replied, very truly I tell you, that unless you are born again you cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus further elaborated that unless a person is born of the water and of the SPIRIT, he/she cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven. When a person is re-born, it means a spiritual re-birth. And it is perhaps the most important event in his/her life as it depends on what happens to his/her soul after he/she dies in this worldly life. I suggest that this term not be ridiculed and loosely used.
