Colombo, May 1 (Daily Mirror) - In a surprising move, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa, in a meeting with a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has offered to play a mediatory role between two Asian giants implying India and China, the Daily Mirror learns.
A source familiar with the meeting told Daily Mirror that Premadasa made such an offer during the discussion between his party and the CPC delegation that visited Sri Lanka recently.
However, the CPC is reported to have said that Sri Lanka should not attach special status to any country in its foreign relations.
The CPC delegation headed by Deputy Minister of the International Affairs Department Sun Haiyan called on Premadasa and a few other MPs as part of engagements with the Sri Lankan political parties.
At the meeting, Premadasa, apparently in reference to Indo-China conflict, said he, as a political leader, was ready for a mediatory role between the two Asian giants.
Ms. Sun is reported to have replied that Sri Lanka should always be even handed in its dealings with all the countries and should not attach special status to any country.
Among the Sri Lankan leaders, then Prime Minister Sirimawo Bandaranaike is reported to have played such a role during the 1962 Indo-China war. She took the initiative for a conference of the non-aligned countries in December 1962 in Colombo, to mediate between India and China. India and China have competing strategic interests in Sri Lanka and vie for regional influence. It has placed Sri Lanka in a precarious position forcing it to walk the diplomatic tightrope.
The CPC delegation was in two recently and held talks with all the key parties including the National People’s Power (NPP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

Mr Sajith, I hope you understand the aspects of how geopolitical power dynamics works in the world. Secondly, how diplomatic protocols work. Thirdly, you need to be in an exclusive leadership position in your country as well as the region (at least) to qualify for such an endeavour. You unfortunately do not have any of these qualifications and it's an embarrassment to know of these initiatives of yours when you only seen to make a joke of yourself within Sri Lanka. Stop living in the emperor's new clothes syndrome. Please, first win an election and show your leadership success. Then talk about such initiatives.

China and India have forged Links anew. China now supports India's bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Their armies have held joint military exercises; and at World Trade Organization Negotiations, the countries have adopted similar positions on international trade in agricultural products and intellectual property rights. Moreover, the two nations are also reviving their old cultural and religious ties. Hello, they've no issues and nothing they can resolve amicably. Yeah!!

There are many books written about the China-India war in 1962 and it is interesting to read how China outfought the Indians. In one instance battalions of Indian soldiers were lying in ambush waiting for the Chinese soldiers to cross a large bridge and enter into Indian territory, but the Chinese in a brilliant move crossed the river by swimming across it a few hundred meters from the bridge and then came from behind and obliterated the entire Indian battalions. Indian Army was no match to the powerful Chinese forces and at the end of the war India had lost thousands of square miles of its territory to China in a region called Arunachal Pradesh. And still those thousands of square miles are under Chinese Control.

Premadas suffers from overestimating his own abilities, a mild form of megalomania!!! He is unable to adequately perform his role as party leader, to resolve conflicts within the party in a goal-oriented manner and to develop politically relevant concepts and strategies to provide the people of the country with a better quality of life and secure prospects for the future!!! As party leader he acts inconsistently, argues and alienates Fonseka, a possible pillar in the upcoming election campaign, and reduces the chances of victory to a minimum!!! What does such a man want in big politics!??? Nobody will take him seriously, nobody needs his advice! Neither China nor India!!! His presidency would turn Sri Lanka into a political dwarf state!!!
