Colombo, March 03 (Daily Mirror) - A man was arrested this morning by Kadugannawa police for riding a motorcycle from Colombo to Kandy while naked.
Police said the 23-year-old man was arrested after a great effort by law enforcement.
Several police officers observed the man riding the motorcycle along the Kandy-Colombo road and attempted to apprehend him, but none were able to catch him.
The Kegalle and Mawanella police also pursued the man but were unsuccessful. After alerting the Kadugannawa and Peradeniya police, officers in Kadugannawa managed to stop the motorcycle using roadblocks.
The arrested man has been identified as a 23-year-old resident of Ahangama. He is set to be produced before court today, where authorities will seek permission to obtain a mental health evaluation.
Kadugannawa police are conducting further investigations under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police for the Kandy Division, Anuruddha Bandaranaike.

Don't you feel such things happening in SriLanka to degrade our country and it's leaders. Behind this a well-planned team lead by Namal Rajapakshe from Potuwa is working to tarnish the image of our country and it's leaders.

Stunt mania Monday, 03 March 2025 11:41 AM
Don’t let this western stunt take place in our country and it is against our cultural norms and values: please take a strong action . What does law says about it? Sri Lankan judiciary must update new rules of law in many issues like this and sadly our judiciary is outdated and ministry of justice must have a team of lawyers to come up new rules and regulations for all modern issues like this and so many modern challenges are out there and yet we follow old rules of law and our judiciary is still stagnant and does not move forward as our time demands:

Sad to hear these comments Monday, 03 March 2025 12:51 PM
Sri Lankan judiciary does not and cannot update new rules of law. It is done by the legislature - parliament.

The odd nut-job who does something stupid has been a thing from the dawn of time in every society. Nothing to do with a western influence or shortcomings in terms of the law. If your neighbour decides to bite a dog tomorrow, that’s them being a nut-job not any major societal shift lol

Let me remind you that not so long ago, Sri Lankan women would roam around topless in public and it is those from the west who made it compulsory for them to cover up.

Why Monday, 03 March 2025 12:36 PM
He must be a modern Sardiyal of Kadugandawa: why he was not arrested in the same place Late sardiyal as arrested in Uthumankanda when was riding near Kegalle, it would be well fitting to do that: our police should little bit of history to do it

Sorry to hear, as expect it's increasing mental health issues Monday, 03 March 2025 01:35 PM
Behaviour like this is a sign of increasing mental health issues in the public. What the mental health evaluation shows or what the naked man says made him so evade and keep riding, clearly a terrible turmoil will be good to be made known by way of the media. 100 years ago there were less complications and pressures, although life was more dangerous. Now same problems as Western countries are coming up here.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO THIS MAN AND HIS FAMILY. Monday, 03 March 2025 03:41 PM
FIRSTLY, DO NOT BLAME WESTERN CULTURE FOR THIS INCIDENT!!!. WHAT HAS WESTERN CULTURE GOT TO DO WITH US AND BELIEVE ME IF THIS GUY WAS DOING THE VERY SAME THING IN A WESTERN COUNTRY OR OTHERWISE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN A VERY SHORT TIME. MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN THE COUNTRY ARE RUNNING WILD, SOME DO NOT GO AND GET TREATED, OTHERS NO MONEY TO SEE A DR OR NO MEDICAL HELP WHERE THEY LIVE. WITH SUFFERING UNDER THE PREVIOUS GOVT/S FOR MANY YEARS IT IS NOT SURPRISING, HE NEEDS TO GET HELP BEFORE HIS MENTAL HEALTH ESCALATES. HOPE THE GOVT GETS HIM AND HIS FAMILY HELP, IT IS NO JOKE AS WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WILL DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS GOING FROM CMB TO KANDY!!. AT LEAST HE WAS ON A BIKE AND NO ONE WAS HURT, HE COULD EASILY HAVE GONE ON A RAMPAGE AND KILLED A FEW PEOPLE.

Is there a law stipulating you cannot ride a bike naked? What about a lot of politicians and businessmen high speeding and driving cars without registration driving cars illegally imported. Police do not try to catch political murderers and robbers but have time to catch this naked rider. Only job Police do well is taking suspects to places where they had hidden weapons.

No, this is result of Naml and Sajith encouraging for madness. Some monks will soon ask for PTA to be used against political parties, if this goes on, and against leaders of other religions too. Namal and Sajith are more than a bit mad.

He must be a member of Rajapaksha clan. They do such things. It could be them spending money for this stunt to show that there is no law and order. Police has done a good thing by arresting him without causing any physical harm to the naked rider or to any other road user. NPP will create a better country with better people.

PRAYERS THE GOVT WILL WORK TOWARDS SETTING UP A EFFICIENT MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM FOR ALL CITIZENS TO COME TO FOR HELP. Monday, 03 March 2025 05:46 PM
SORRY TO HEAR, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON. UNFORTUNATELY SOME IN HERE HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES THAT COME OUT IN DIFFERENT SHAPES AND FORMS. IT IS VITAL WE HAVE A PROPER MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE FOR ALL. MENTAL HEALTH UNITS MUST BE OPENED OUT IN ALL HOSPITALS IF NOT ALREADY UP AND RUNNING, FREE CLINICS MUST BE SET UP OR MOBILE IN AREAS WHEN MEDICAL HELP IS NOT AVAILABLE OR TOO FAR TO TRAVEL. WE NEED TO LOOK AFTER OUR PEOPLE, MAYBE THE RICH CAN GET TOGETHER AND SPONSOR A FEW MOBILE CLINICS TO HELP THE POOR. ,EMTAL HEALTH CAN EASILY LEAD THE YOUNG TO GET INVOLVED IN ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES AND INTO DRUGS ETC. NOT FOR PROFIT REGISTERED ORGS MUST SET UP A HOT LINE FOR PEOPLE TO CONTACT AND CAN BE GIVEN ADVICE AND WHERE TO GO FOR HELP.

The police can have been incredibly efficient to catch a random guy because he was naked. But for all the clothed traffic violators, the buses that drive recklessly... the police turn a Blind eye. Clear show of how our culture details what we think is important.
