Why is that all governments that come to power are not interested in improving the efficiency, discipline and honesty in Govt Departments but are instantly engaged in increasing there wages? Isn't this a negative activity to the development of Nation and a shady method to gain votes at the expense of mainly the private sector tax paying citizens?

Pvt sector should organize massive protests and stop paying taxes as the money is always wasted by succesive gov to pay majority of useless gov secor. If green test can be done by pvt sector why other gov services cannot be privatized

Whatever the patriotic leaders contribute to the country, shedding their traditional priviledges, unless government machinery is geared to implement the decisions ethically, devloping this country is a myth!!. Start with the reforming from the top by appointing capable, inovative and skilled Professionals to the decision making key positions by offering a VRS to present "Yes Sir"people.

Do not spread false information, I and so many hundreds of thousands of others have been travelling in and out BIA and never in my life or those known to me were asked for any bribe by either immigration or customs officers. If your friend was asked to pay a bribe, your friend was definitely doing an illegal act. But i dougt your statement about a bribe.I think this armchair commenter has never been to BIA in his life.

New requirements are unthinkable. Allocating Rs. 300 million for some national event in December for all communities is a waste. We got our priorities mixed. Over all budget offers no surprises. Lot of promises. All what can be done is to wait to see if the promises are kept.

Look at most of our Govt offices with an archaic system, driven by unions, most often on holiday... and our tax payers money is going to increase their salaries - if so, the public must expect more efficiency, better quality service.. That is 58% increase, and I do understand that the cost of living has gone up. But 58% increase? Are you crazy? Even in USA we only get Max 3% increase. Here inflation has gone up too. I now strongly believe Trump was right in cutting the USAID program. Just giving away hard working American's money to all these free loaders.

Double the salary and ask rice farmers, egg producers and coconut producers to cap their selling price? Where do you expect them to get workers? Mechanization is impossible due to weak rupee and Vat on vat added by you. Already the bunch are lazy and now make them more by creating an army of government workers. I heard they pay monthly Rs 8000 for each kid under poverty line. What actually happen is parents take this money and hardly goto work.

Every government does this and it is more like a bribe. Funny thing is the government sector will not stay with who ever gives the salary hike. They will change their alliance to the potential winner at successive major election. Yahapalanaya raised salaries by 10k but huge majority of gov sector voted gota. Ranil then raised the salaries but majority voted akd. At the next election or probably at election within a year they will shift to another candidate. Private sector should at least comeout in large no and protest against this bribe system by governments and also stop paying taxes.
