Supermarket robbed

A supermarket of Keels at Kurana, Katunayake has been robbed by a man who broke into it after breaking down one of the glass panels last night. Pictures and video circulating on social media sites show the man carrying a sword breaking down the glass panel, entering into the supermarket and then collecting goods before leaving.

Stray dogs roam in search of food

An island-wide curfew was declared over the weekend in order to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka. While the curfew resulted in a complete shutdown of services across the island, it has resulted in a unique problem for the large number of stray dogs in the hill-country estates.

One dead after riot at Anuradhapura prison

One inmate has been killed while three other inmates have been injured in a shooting reported during a tense situation at the Anuradhapura prison.

Isolation centre under construction at IDH

Sri Lanka Air Force commenced construction of a pre-fabricated building as an isolation centre at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) Angoda. It has been planned for this centre to consist of 16 isolation rooms. Acting Chinese Ambassador Hu Wei met Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and pledged to donate another 100k Masks(incl. 10k N95) and 20k Test Kits to Sri Lanka shortly.

Navy to prevent COVID-19 entering the country from ships

Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Suwaseriya Ambulance Service, Firefighting Unit of Colombo harbour, Harbour Health Service and doctors from National Quarantine Unit conducted a drill at the harbour yesterday to rehearse Standard Operational Procedure that could be adopted in the event of transferring a suspected COVID-19 contracted patient from a ship to the relevant hospital ashore and quarantining a particular area on the land.
