In a significant step towards advancing English language proficiency assessment in southern Sri Lanka, the British Council, in collaboration with Apex, has launched the region’s first IELTS on Computer Centre. This pioneering initiative is set to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and innovation in English language education.

The British Council and Apex have maintained a longstanding partnership since 2013, working together to provide English language classes, library services, and now, cutting-edge English assessment solutions. The newly introduced IELTS on computer format offers several advantages, including quicker results within 48 hours, increased test date availability, and the One-Skill Retake option, which allows candidates to improve scores in specific test components.

Recognized by over 12,500 institutions worldwide, IELTS remains the gold standard in English language assessment. Developed by Cambridge University, the test is renowned for its reliability, security, and standardized evaluation. With a global presence and extensive preparation resources, IELTS continues to be a preferred choice for individuals seeking academic and professional opportunities abroad.

At the launch event, Devprakash Peiris, Head of Exams Operations at the British Council, emphasized the significance of English proficiency for Sri Lankans aiming to excel in key industries such as IT, tourism, and education. “The British Council supports over 100 million learners worldwide through its English learning and assessment services,” Peiris stated, underscoring the organization’s vast impact and commitment to education.

This initiative aligns with the British Council’s broader mission to foster global connections, mutual understanding, and trust through education. By facilitating high-quality language assessment, the organization continues to create opportunities for Sri Lankans to engage with the world, contributing to a more interconnected and prosperous future.
