Centuries by Kavindu Hettiarachchi and Lithum Senuja supported by a half ton from Rasheed Nehyan paved the way for Wesley College to record a comfortable first innings win over Sri Sumangala College Panadura in the final of the Under 19 inter-school Division One Tier B cricket tournament concluded at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona.

The final day’s play had Wesley resuming from their overnight score of 281 for 5 being steered by the overnight pair of Kavindu and Lithum frustrating the Sumangala bowlers as the duo went on to reach their centuries.

The pair were separated after putting on a valuable 234 runs for the sixth wicket with the dismissal of Kavindu who made 134 which had 15 boundaries and three sixes.

Lithum having reached his ton was dismissed for 101 that included 13 boundaries but he put on a brief stand of 44 runs for the seventh wicket with Senura Lakshan before Wesley made the declaration with the score on 416 for 7 in reply to Sri Sumangala’s score of 239 for a lead of 177 which ensured them the title.

The two teams will be promoted to the Under 19 Division One Tier A segment next season.
