Sri Lanka reach ITF Boys’ junior final

Colombo, Feb. 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Boys’ Team cruised to the final of the ITF Asia/Oceania Under-14 Pre-Qualifying Junior Tennis Team Championship when they defeated Kyrgyzstan 2-0 in the semi-final encounter played at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo.

The two wins recorded by Risith Somaratna and Ashlin Silva in their respective Singles was sufficient for Sri Lanka to enter the final and they will now meet India in the final tomorrow.

However, the Sri Lanka Girls’ Team bowed out of contention as they went down to Nepal 1-2 in a tightly contested semi-final encounter and the winner will now meet Indonesia in the final.

Results:

Girls’ Singles semi-finals: Swastika Bista (Nepal) beat Sandithi Usgodaarachchi (Sri Lanka) 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Akesha Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Shivali Gurunuge (Nepal) 7-5, 6-3. Doubles: Shivali Gurunuge/Swastika Bista (Nepal) beat Sandithi Usgodaarachchi/Akesha Silva (Sri Lanka) 6-3, 3-6, 9-6.

Boys’ Singles semi-finals: Risith Somaratna (Sri Lanka) beat Maksin Kim (Kyrgyzstan) 6-0, 6-0. Ashlin de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Ridvan Loianov (Kyrgyzstan) 6-2, 6-3.
