Sri Lanka and Pakistan men win kabbadi bronze

Sri Lanka and Pakistan secured the bronze medal in the men’s kabaddi event at the sixth Asian Beach Games.

Iran won the gold medal in the tournament, while India claimed the silver medal.

In the men’s final between Iran and India, the score stood at 44–31.

Accordingly, Sri Lanka—who lost to Iran in the semifinal (42–29)—and Pakistan—who were defeated by India (44–31) - were both awarded bronze medals.

The Sri Lankan bronze medal-winning team comprised Milinda Chathuranga, Saminda Santhushta, Dilan Sanjaya, Ruwan Samarakoon, Mohammed Ansaf and Aabith Aqar.

A total of 77 athletes representing eight teams participated in this year’s Asian Beach Games. However, as of yesterday, Sri Lanka had only secured medals in athletics and kabaddi. By then the country had won two silver medals and four bronze medals.

Sri Lanka’s athletics medalists arrived in Colombo yesterday led by silver medalist Ishara Samanmali in the women’s long jump, alongside bronze medalists Shashikala Lankathilake and Jayathra Sampath Miranda in the women’s and men’s long jump respectively. Also included was the men’s 4x60m relay team comprising Manuja Prabhash, Malith Thamel, Malith Tharushan and Sadun Diyalawaththa.
