An intense moment from the Sri Lanka vs Kyrgyzstan match
By Susil Premalal
Sri Lanka produced a spectacular performance to defeat tournament favorites Kyrgyzstan 3–0 in their final round-robin match of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Women’s Under-19 Volleyball Championship 2025, played yesterday at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.
The championship, organized by CAVA with the participation of four nations—Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, and the Maldives—will continue until November 9.
This marks Sri Lanka’s second victory in the tournament, following their earlier 3–0 win against the Maldives. The straight-sets triumph over Kyrgyzstan (25–19, 27–25, 25–22) was a significant upset, as Kyrgyzstan had remained unbeaten until this encounter.
Although Sri Lanka won all three sets, each round was fiercely contested, with the Kyrgyz players offering strong resistance before Sri Lanka sealed the victory through disciplined teamwork and precise attacks.
According to the points table, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Kyrgyzstan are now tied with two wins each, while the Maldives remain winless.
The semi-final round will take place on November 8, featuring matches between Kyrgyzstan vs Sri Lanka and Nepal vs Maldives.
