Sri Lanka Junior Girls Boys Qualify to Quarter Finals

Colombo, Feb. 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka junior girls' and boys' team qualified to the quarter finals of the ITF Asia/Oceania U14 Pre-Qualifying Junior Tennis Team Championship when they came out victorious in their matches played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo.

The two teams though losing a singles match each succeeded to come out of top in the second singles and doubles encounters played with the girls getting the better of Kyrgyzstan which was their third successive win and the boy’s overcoming Lebanon by identical winning margins of two sets to one. In the girls category Samdithi Usgodaarachchi went down in the first singles match while Akesha de Silva won the second singles and then partnered by Sandithi won the doubles match. In the boys' category Sri Lanka’s Risith Somaratne was beaten but Ashlini de Silva helped Sri Lanka to make.a come by winning his singles match and then partnered by Mayoorsn Kubheran tasted success in the doubles match.

The two teams are scheduled to be play their quarter final match tomorrow.

Girls - Sri Lanka beat Kyrgyzstan 2-1,

Singles - Saara Myzaeva (Kyrgyzstan) beat Sandithi Usgodaarachchi (Sri Lanka) 2-1 (6/4, 6/4). Akesha de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Eva Gavshina (Kyrgyzstan) 2-0 (7/6, 6/4).

Doubles - Sandithi Usgodaarachchi/Akesha de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Anel Bogdanova/Saara Myzaeva (Kyrgyzstan) 2-0 (6/1, 6/2)

Boys - Sri Lanka beat Lebanon 2-1

Singles - Ekefteriades Yanni (Lebanon) beat Risith Somaratna (Sri Lanka) 2-1 (3/6 6/3 7/6). Ashlini de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Christopher Hachem (Lebanon) 2-0 (6/1 6/2).

Doubles - Mayoorsn Kubheran/Ashilini de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Elia's Abou Rahal/ Ekefteriades Yann (Lebanon) 2-0 (6/2 6/4).
