Sri Lankan athletes put up a disappointing performance as they failed to win a medal on the second day of the 22nd Asian Athletic Championship which continued at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India on Friday (7).
Sanjaya Jayasinghe had to be content with the sixth place in the Men’s javelin throw with a performance of 15.97 metres.
In addition, Dilip Ruwan finished fifth with a timing of 46.50 seconds in the Men’s 400 metres while Ajith Premakumara was placed eighth in the same event with a time of 47.35 seconds.
Meanwhile, Nimali Madushika took the fifth place in the Women’s 400 metres with a time of 54.58 seconds.
Dulanjalee Ranasinghe was pushed into the 10th position in the Women’s high jump with an effort of 1.75 metres.
The meet will be continued on Saturday (8) with Manjula Wijesekera (Men’s high jump), Nilani Ratnayake (Women’s 3,000m steeplechase), Vidusha Lakshani (Women’s triple jump) and Vinod Suranjaya Silva (Men’s 200m) set to compete in the finals of their respective events.
