Rajasinghe MMV Ruwanwella and Vijayaba National School, Hungama, emerged champions in the Under-19 Boys’ and Girls’ divisions, respectively, at the DSI Supersports All-Island Inter-School Volleyball Championship 2025, held yesterday (16) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
The tournament, conducted for the 23rd year, was jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Volleyball Association, the Ministry of Education, and the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation.
In a thrilling boys’ final, Rajasinghe MMV, Ruwanwella, defeated President’s National School, Nattandiya, by 3–1 with set scores of 25-19, 31-33, 25-15, 25-20. The Ruwanwella school showcased superior attacking and tactical play to secure the championship.
The girls’ final saw a dominant performance by Vijayaba National School, Hungama, who swept the match 3–0 against Rajasinghe MMV, Ruwanwella, with set scores of 25-19, 25-8, 25-6. Their all-round excellence ensured a decisive victory.
K.M.V.C. Wijewickrama of Rajasinghe MMV (Ruwanwella) and Pawani Pabasara of Vijayaba National School (Hungama) were both honoured as the Best Upcoming Player of the Year in the U-19 Boys’ and Girls’ categories.
In the U-17 segment, Rajasinghe MMV (boys) and Vijayaba MV Mahawa (girls) captured the championships.
U-17 Boys’ Final: Rajasinghe MMV defeated Walasmulla National School, Hambantota, 3–0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-13)
U-17 Girls’ Final: Vijayaba MV, Mahawa, overcame Vijayaba NS, Hungama, 3–1 (26-28, 25-17, 25-20, 25-23)
The finals marked a commendable display of emerging youth talent, reaffirming the strong volleyball culture among Sri Lankan schools.
