Mahanama resigns from National Sports Council

Former Sri Lanka cricket star and respected sports administrator Roshan Mahanama has stepped down from his position as a member of the National Sports Council (NSC). Mahanama, who was appointed to the council for the 2025–2028 term by a letter dated February 14, 2025, officially assumed duties on February 20, but has now withdrawn from the role.

In a statement announcing his resignation, Mahanama explained that personal reasons had led to his decision. He stressed that his commitment to sports remains strong and expressed confidence that the NSC would continue to serve the best interests of athletes. “As clearly stated in my letter of appointment, my constant focus has always been on ensuring that decisions are made for the betterment of sports. While I am unable to continue in this official role, I will always remain dedicated to supporting sports development and safeguarding athletes,” he said.

Mahanama further assured that his passion for uplifting Sri Lankan sports has not diminished, and he intends to continue contributing in other ways by guiding, supporting, and working with the sporting community. He also expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the NSC and fellow members for the opportunity to serve, extending his best wishes for the council’s future endeavours.
