The opening day of the MEDCO Pondok Indah International Amateur Golf Championship 2025 in Jakarta saw an impressive display of golfing talent by 17-year-old Reshan Algama who ended tied 13th out of the 79 golfers who teed off on day one.
Indonesia’s top-ranked amateur Jonathan Haartono at World No. 235 carded a superb 3-under-par 69 to share the lead with compatriot William Justin (367). Both Indonesians sit atop a highly competitive leaderboard featuring 79 international players from the USA, Australia, other Asian nations, and the host country.
Reshan Algama demonstrated his growing stature in international golf. Algama carded a solid 2-over-par 74, placing him tied for 13th after round one, well within striking distance of the leaders with two crucial rounds to play. His consistency and composure against a strong international field reinforce why he is Sri Lanka’s highest-ranked junior and a rapidly emerging name in amateur golf circles.
Other Sri Lankan participants faced a tougher opening day. Haroon Aslam shot a 4-over 76 ending tied on 25th place while Jacob Norton struggled to find rhythm, posting a 9-over 81 to sit tied for 46th place. Sachin de Silva closed with a 10-over 82, leaving him tied at 53rd.
The final winner will be decided after three days of golf.
