Lekamge wins silver, Sri Lanka’s first asian games medal in athletics in 17 years

Sri Lanka’s women’s Javelin Throw record holder Dilhani Lekamge won a silver medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China yesterday.


Lekamge’s distance of 61.57 metres was a new Sri Lanka record and created history  by making her the first Sri Lankan track and field athlete to win a medal after 17 years in the Asian Games. This is also the first medal won by a Sri Lankan women’s athlete in a  field event in the history of the Asian Games.


Dilhani’s previous record 60.93m was at the Asian Athletic Championship 2023 in  Bangkok where she won a bronze medal  last July.
