HNB Assurance Group led by Dulangana Prabath Wijesinghe, won their maiden Mercantile cricket title, as they trounced Access Group by 152 runs in the Final of the 14th Honda Trophy – MCA ‘G’ Division 25-over League Tournament 2025 on Saturday at the MCA Grounds.
A power packed century by opening batsman Dasun Maduranga Abeywardena (118 in 58 balls, 13 sixes and 6 fours), and a hat-trick performed by opening bowler, Chamila Kithmal Wickramaratne (4 for 8) propelled them to victory.
HNB Assurance Group, who won the toss and batted, put up an impressive 229 for 6 in 25 overs, riding on the hurricane 165-run,stand for the second wicket in 98 balls between centurion Dasun Maduranga Abeywardena and Linal Subasinghe (50 in 56 balls, 4 sixes and a four).
Access Group chasing a target of 230 runs in 25 overs (RPO 9.22) was never in the hunt, as they lost wickets on regular intervals and finally shot out for a paltry 77 in 17.5 overs.
MCA appointed Match Referee, Ajith Wasantha had no hesitation in naming Dasun Maduranga Abeywardena from HNB Assurance Group, as his Man of the Match,
The other three special awards (based on performance up to the semi-final stage) went to: Best Bowler/ Nalinda Maddumage from D. Samson Industries (DSI) ; Best Batter /Chamath Yatawara from JF&I Packaging; & Man of the Series / Dulanjana Prabath Wijesinghe from HNB Assurance Group.
Awards were given away by Kapila Gunatillake, General Manager, Motor Cycles & Power Products, and Damitha Jayasundara, General Manager, Administration (both from Stafford Motor Co.) and MCA officials, Mahesh de Alwis, President, Lakmal de Silva, Chairman, Tournament Committee and Promodth Fernando, Secretary, Tournament Committee.
