Colombo bags junior hockey championship

The Colombo Hockey Association (CHA) ended victorious at the 46th Junior Men’s Hockey Nationals at the Nandimithra Ekanayaka hockey turf, Matale after a thrilling final against the host team.

The tournament featured the 10 top hockey teams from across the country competing for the national title.

In a closely contested final, Colombo defeated the Matale Hockey Association 3-2 to secure the championship. Goals for Colombo were scored by Kushan Hirundika, Ross Abner and Dishon Metushel while Akram Mohamed and Nadeeja Wijesuriya scored for the losers.

The third place was claimed by the Mercantile Hockey Association while the combined University team secured fourth place.

Outstanding individual performances were also recognised with Abner Fernando of the Colombo HA awarded the Player of the Tournament and Imesha Perera of the Mercantile HA earning the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament accolade.
