Charani first female ref in schools ‘A’ Division

Charani Liyanage will become the first female referee to officiate an ‘A’ Division Inter-Schools rugby match when she officiate the Under-19 League Tournament match between Thurstan College and Wesley College at Ratmalana on Saturday.

Charani had her secondary education at Dematagoda St. Anthony’s Girls’ School and joined the Army in 2009.
She represented Sri Lanka in 2016 and became a member of the Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees in 2022.

Charani officiated as an Assistant Referee at the recently concluded Inter-Club ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament.
