Wesley outplay Thomians in second half rally

Wesley College outplayed S. Thomas’ College in a spectacular second half rally in their inter school rugby match for the Oliver Goonetilleke Trophy at Longden Place in Colombo yesterday.

Wesley for a large part of the first half played second fiddle to the Thomians who led 19-7 at one stage.

But Wesley clawed back well and truly in the second half after drawing level 19-19 at one stage and then taking the lead for the first time in the second half through a try by fullback Mohamed Fawaz who joined the line to touch down making the scores 24-19.

From then on it was one-day traffic as Wesley scored three more tries, one through a rolling maul and the last try through centre Prarthana Rodrigo who intercepted the ball when the Thomians attempted to work their line in front of the posts.

Overall Wesley scored 34 points in their comeback while the Thomians could reply with only five points through a try by Mayanka Dias.
