Sri Lanka to host World Military Beach VB Championships

The International Military Sports Council and Defence Services Sports Council of Sri Lanka, the 4th CISM World Military Beach Volleyball Championship (2023) will be held from February 13 to 17 at Negombo Beach Park (Goldi Sands Hotel).


Hosted by the Sri Lanka Air Force under the auspices of the Defence Service Sports Council of Sri Lanka,  this is the first international beach volleyball tournament to be held in Sri Lanka as part of the World Military Games.


The World Military Beach Volleyball Championship was scheduled to be held in June 2022, but due to the situation in the country at that time, it was decided to postpone it by one year.
Around 120 players and officials from eight countries will be participating in this tournament. The countries are France, Colombia, Germany, Oman, Venezuela, The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka.


There are 16 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams in this tournament.


Many top players from the world No.1 to No.10 are going to participate in the World Military Beach Volleyball tournament, said Air Vice Marshal R.N. Thilakasinghe, chairman of the  Sri Lanka Organizing Committee said yesterday at a press conference held at Air Force headquarters.


A national pool consisting of 12 players  from Army, Navy and Air Force are training in preparation for this tournament out of which two men and two women will be selected to represent Sri Lanka.


The preliminary round matches of the tournament will be held from February 13 to 15, semifinals on February 16 and finals (men and women) on February 17.
