Sri Lanka began the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier with a smashing 67-run win over Thailand in the Group ‘A’ curtain-raiser match of the tournament played at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

Sri Lanka Women compiled 122 for five in 20 overs after Skipper Chamari Atapattu had elected to bat first and then bowled out Thailand for 55 runs 16.2 overs.
The Sri Lanka innings was built around two useful contributions from Hasini Perera and Nilakshika Silva, who remained unbeaten on 29 from 20 balls with three boundaries.
Hasini played a more cautious innings as she held the batting together with a solid 29 from 32 balls and was studded with five boundaries.
She came into bat at the fall of the first wicket and held on determinedly at one end before she was dismissed in the 15th over.
In reply, Thailand lost half of the side for 40 runs in the 12th over and never looked like making a match of it against some disciplined bowling.
Wicket-keeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai, batting at number three was the only batter to reach double figures as Udeshika Prabodhani and Inoshi Priyadarshani ran through the innings in style.
Sri Lanka’s next match will be against Scotland on Saturday.
