After scoring their first T20I and ODI victories over Australia during the first multi-format tour Down Under in February, South Africa now face Sri Lanka at home in three T20Is and three ODIs starting in Benoni today as they build towards the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in September and October.
The current series is the last competitive cricket for the Proteas before the T20 World Cup in September and October.
For Sri Lanka, the T20I series will be crucial as they are slated to play in the ICC Global Qualifier in April-May followed by the Asia Cup and also the mega ICC event, the Women’s T20 World Cup later this year.
South Africa, as well, will aim to solidify their squad for the World Cup amidst experiments with multiple rookie talents. In the T20Is, South Africa holds the edge in head-to-head face-offs with 14 wins and two games not producing a result.
