The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) is planning to hold an inter-school volleyball ‘big match’ in every educational zone.

The  new SLVB president Kanchana Jayaratne is of the opinion that volleyball  big matches should be held similar to school cricket matches to  popularise the sport.

The Sri Lanka Schools Volleyball Association  will have discussions with the Education Ministry officials to launch  the concept of school volleyball big matches, the SLVB president said at  a press conference in Colombo.

Under this proposal, big matches would be held in each educational circuit or zone or between
two schools.

The objective is to identify talented school boys and girls and select them to the national pool, added the SLVB president.

Meanwhile,  the SLVB also hopes to promote beach volleyball in which Sri Lanka is  making progress at Asian level to school by including the event at the  proposed International School Games to be organized annually.

The SLVB also plans to conduct a beach volleyball league annually with the inaugural event taking place in Hambantota recently.
