The Sri Lanka Commonwealth Games Association (SLCGA) has informed the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) to prepare a Beach Volleyball Men’s team for the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) 2023.
Attention has also been paid to participation in disciplines such as Athletics, Swimming, Triathlon and Rugby Sevens, according to SLCGA sources.
The Commonwealth Youth Games will be held from August 4-11 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago with the participation of more than 900 athletes from 74 countries in the age range of 14-18.
Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Cycling, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Swimming and Triathlon teams will compete at this year’s youth games.
The SLVB has made arrangements to hold a U-18 Boys and Girls Beach Volleyball tournament and form a squad in conjunction with the upcoming National Beach Volleyball tournament to select the Commonwealth Youth Beach Volleyball Sri Lanka team.
In the history of Commonwealth Youth Games, Sri Lanka has won 14 medals from 2008 to 2017. These include four Gold, seven Silver and three Bronze medals. At the last games in 2017, Sri Lanka won two Silver medals.
