Park Club eye winning end to round 1

Havelock Sports Club will look to cap their Round One campaign In the Inter Club Rugby League 2025/2026 on a positive note when they take on Police Sports Club in their final group encounter at Police Park today (23 January).
The Park Club have endured a mixed season but remain firmly in the frame to feature in the Cup segment in Round Two. After a demanding run of fixtures, including defeats to traditional rivals CR and the defending champions Kandy SC in the Central Region.
Havies will be determined to finish the group stage with momentum. They began the season with a draw against Navy SC showed their true potential when they produced a dominant performance to overwhelm one of the competition’s leading sides, a result that highlighted their attacking capability and forward strength. They also were defeated by their traditional rivals CR and FC.
Havies success this season has been built around a powerful pack that has consistently dominated the set-piece and breakdown, providing quality possession and territorial advantage. Their backline, though occasionally inconsistent, has shown flashes of class and will be eager to convert opportunities into points in what is expected to be a closely contested encounter. Azmir Fajudeen and Abdullah Faiz been stand out players while Jayathu Rajarathna been outstanding with electrifying speed.
Police Sports Club meanwhile, come into the game on the back of an encouraging win over Army and will be buoyed by playing at home. They have been competitive throughout the season and possess the ability to trouble any side if allowed to dictate the tempo. Mohan Wimalaratne and Burly Heshan Kalhara are the players to look forward to.
However, with greater depth, physical presence and the incentive of ending Round One on a high, the Park Club appear better equipped to handle the pressure moments. If they maintain discipline and execute their game plan, Havies should have just enough to pull it off in a tight finish.
