Over 500 contest Masters International Badminton

The much anticipated Ceylon Masters Badminton (CMB) International Championships 2026 will officially get underway today at the state-of-the-art AIR Sports Complex in Rajagiriya, with the tournament running from June 25 to 28.

With more than 500 entries received, this year’s championship is set to be one of the largest editions in the event’s history, attracting a strong international field and promising four days of high-quality Masters’ badminton action according to the organisers.

Competitors from host nation Sri Lanka as well as India, Indonesia, Switzerland, Australia and several other badminton-playing countries, will compete across multiple categories. Sri Lanka’s leading badminton veterans are expected to face tough challenges from experienced international players in the tournament.

The championship will be conducted under the supervision of veteran badminton official Rohana de Silva, one of the country’s most experienced tournament administrators. He will be assisted by referee Upul Gamlath and deputy referees Sanjeewa Wijesekera and Samanthi Navaratne, ensuring that the competition is officiated to international standards according to the organisers.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for this morning prior to the commencement of play, will be graced by Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya as chief guest who is also a keen badminton enthusiast.

Welcoming the distinguished guests and overseas participants will be Ceylon Masters Badminton president Rohan de Silva and members of the Executive Committee, whose extensive preparations and commitment have helped deliver another edition of one of Sri Lanka›s premier international badminton events.
