Colombo, June 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Environment has launched an official WhatsApp service to strengthen public participation in environmental conservation and improve communication between citizens and authorities.
The new service, available through the hotline 070 250 950 9, has been introduced under the vision of “A Sustainable Biosphere, An Evergreen Life” to provide a direct platform for the public to raise environmental concerns, report illegal ecological activities, and participate in conservation initiatives.
The Ministry said the platform will help ensure faster and more effective responses by encouraging the public to submit documented evidence, detailed reports, and photographic proof related to environmental issues.
The initiative is aimed at reducing administrative barriers and creating a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive approach to environmental governance by using modern technology.
Through the service, members of the public can report environmental degradation, share eco-friendly innovations, and submit suggestions or policy feedback directly to the Ministry.
The Ministry of Environment has called on all citizens to contribute to protecting Sri Lanka’s natural heritage by sending environmental concerns, verified reports, and constructive proposals via text messages only through WhatsApp number 070 250 950 9.
