The much looked forward to All Island Schools Aquatic Championship organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Association is scheduled to be held over six days starting from today at the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex swimming pool in Colombo.
The championship which is the 50th in the series is being sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd for the 31st time under the brand Milo and will see the participation of over 5,000 swimmers comprising over 3,000 in the boy’s category and over 2,000 in the girl’s category from 275 schools across the island.
Nestle has been a major promoter of sports at junior level where talented youngsters in the sports of rugger, netball and swimming to name a few have excelled and gone on to represent at national level.
Apart from the sponsorship of swimming for the last three decades, it also has been supporting the All Island Schools Netball Championship spanning the same period of nearly three decades.
Nestle in their endeavour remains steadfast in offering a platform for children to showcase their talent and skills to go greater heights and to fulfill their aims and also to inspire the parents around the country to nurture their kids growth with the invaluable values instilled through sports.
St. Joseph’s, Colombo, the defending champions in the boy’s category, have won the title for 19 years at a stretch and they will be aiming to retain the title. In the girl’s and mixed schools segments, Ladies’ College and Lyceum International School, Wattala will be looking to retain the title for yet another year.
