Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been hired to coach bowlers of various age groups in Australia. This was revealed by Prabath Nissanka, the former right-arm fast bowler, who has been associated with the Melbourne Cricket Coaching Academy in Australia.

Speaking exclusively over the telephone from Australia, he said, “We are conducting a fast-bowling master-class with Malinga. This will be done with the white ball to prepare players for ODIs and T20s.”

Malinga arrived in Australia about three weeks ago and has completed his 14-day quarantine.
“He is all set to begin his coaching stints with the players at our academy. He will also train the local coaches.”
The 38-year-old Malinga has over 500 international wickets. He has retired from Test and ODI cricket but has not announced retirement from the T20s. However, he is not on the local selectors’ radar.

“We are mainly focusing on giving knowledge on the art of fast bowling, the techniques and challenges to the younger generation. We will be doing a series of camps, organising matches. He will be with us for about six weeks and Malinga’s expertise will provide a good opportunity for the players of Asian origins, especially Sri Lankan and Indian players,” added Nissanka, who has been the head coach of the academy and has worked with Malinga in the past as well.
