An enterprising knock of 47 in 20 balls inclusive of four boundaries and three sixes by Nishan Madushka paved the way for CCC to pull off a thrilling win by eight wickets with eight balls to spare in the rain-hampered second semi-final of the Major Club T20 cricket tournament played under floodlights at the CCC ground yesterday.
The match was delayed due to heavy rain, and when play was possible, it was curtailed to eight overs. Moors SC, invited to take first lease of the wicket, made a score of 86/5, with Ramesh Mendis making a top score of 28.
CCC in their run chase was guided by Nishan Madushka, who put on two valuable partnerships, the first an opening wicket stand of 29 runs with Lasith Croospulle, followed by a 56-run stand in just 23 balls for the second wicket with Chathuranga de Silva, who made an unbeaten 30 in 12 balls with a boundary and three sixes, which helped them to race to the target in the seventh over. CCC will now meet Panadura SC in the final, scheduled to be played tomorrow under floodlights at the same venue from 7.30 p.m. onwards.
