Mahinda College won the Southern Province Invitation T10 championship by recording a seven runs win over Rahula College Matara in a closely contested final played at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara.
The final was curtailed to eight overs due to rain and Mahinda taking first lease of the wicket made a challenging score of 92 for 6 and then succeeded in restricting Rahula to a score of 85.
The champion Mahinda team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament securing first round wins against St Servatius College and Rahula College before brushing aside the challenge of St Thomas’ College Matara in the semifinal. Rahula was able to win only one first round match against St Servatius. But the unlucky team was Richmond who having won both the first round matches against St Aloysius and St Thomas’ was unfortunate to lose out on the toss in the semifinal encounter against Rahula as the match was rained off. The inaugural Southern Province Invitational T10 tournament organised by the Old Boys Association of St Servatius’ College Matara had the participation of six teams, Richmond, St Aloysius, St Thomas’, Rahula, Mahinda and host St Servatius.
It was played for the GL Galappaththi Memorial Trophy, in memory of the principal of St Servatius’ College who dedicated himself to uplifting the standard of school cricket.
