Gwen Herat’s funeral today

Founding President of Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket and Former Vice-President of the Sri Lanka Netball Federation, Gwen Herat (Nee Ayesha Weerakoon) will be laid to rest today at the General Cemetery, Borella at 3.30 p.m.

Gwen Herat is the wife of late Harold Heart, former minister of foreign affairs.

She was also known as a woman who pioneered the promotion of women’s cricket in Sri Lanka at school and club level.
Gwen also held positions as the President of the Puttalam District Cricket Association and the North Western Province cricket representative affiliated to the then Sri Lanka Cricket Board on several occasions.

In addition to women’s cricket and netball, she was also involved in politics and served as a former member provincial councilor of the North Western Province in the 1990s.
